+136 If abortion is murder, then miscarriage is manslaughter, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

no, because they didn't purposely choose to have the baby die

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's why it would be manslaughter, not murder.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Manslaughter you are still at fault in some way

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If my appendix ruptures is that my fault? If I get tonsillitis is that my fault? If I was born with uterine defects that render me unable to carry a baby to term, is that my fault? No. It's not. And so it's not manslaughter. Manslaughter is something like a car accident, a miscarriage is like organ failure. For it to be anything like manslaughter the mother would have had to do something like drink excessively while pregnant.

Many states are trying to make reckless behavior while pregnant equivalent to manslaughter and even murder. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/utah-abortion-bill-punishing-miscarriages-preventing-crime/story?id=9955517

That kind of makes sense, in a scary overbearing dictatorship kind of way. But if the miscarriage wasn't caused by anything external, either the mother or the baby or both weren't healthy enough to get through it, then that's tragic, but it's no one's fault.

The logic does make sense. If we assume for the sake of the argument that the Pro-Lifers are right and the life of the fetus is just as valuable as the life of the mother, allowing your child to die in your womb would be infanticide. There are lots of people who believe this and want women to report their miscarriages to the police just like they would report a normal death. Every time a woman had a miscarriage she would have to undergo a criminal investigation to make sure she didn't cause it.

That sounds cruel and psychologically damaging, but somewhat justifiable. On an unrelated note, I've decided to adopt.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What if you know you have a problem that can affect pregnancy but still choose to get pregnant and then have a miscarriage?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But if you use the logic that the baby/uterus is just a part of your body that can malfunction, not a separate person, than shouldn't people have the right to do what they want with a part of their body (abortion).

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes. You just explained why many people are Pro-Choice.

That's why it's manslaughter, dumbass

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're obviously a moron. The thing about the organs was an example/comparison, they weren't saying a baby is the same thing as an organ. Aside from that, it's nothing near manslaughter unless the mother drank/did drugs while pregnant. If the miscarriage was natural without her negligence then it is not because she did not choose for the baby to die and was not being careless. This question is just just a way for people to make themselves sound right in the abortion argument, such as the fellow morons who say giving a blow job is the same thing as cannibalism if abortion is murder.

That's like saying it's manslaughter when a person dies because of cancer, a heart attack, etc. The miscarried baby wasn't well enough to keep on living. It's not doing of the mother if she has a miscarriage.

What if she "falls" down the stairs?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well if she falls on her own on "accident" then I think it is a form of murder. If someone pushes her, then that person is guilty of abuse and manslaughter.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And heart failure is attempted suicide?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

What is it with all these abortion posts?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But miscarriage is by accident, abortion is by choice.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

For some women, it is the only choice they can make.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Ya but it's still by choice. They made the choice to have sex. Unless they were raped.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Even if abortion WAS murder, which it isn't, oh well.
