u didnt copy. i thought that too. and i didnt see it anywhere. :) but i usually get shut down about armies of orcs and the nazgul waiting for them at the entrance

Nah, they needed to stay incognito, to avoid the flying things the nazguls had and sauron's all-seeing eye. And yes, assuming they could make it there on eagle without being killed, they would be shot as soon as they came within sight of Mordor.
