+565 Based on footage of robberies seen in news stories, you'd think security cameras could be slightly better quality in this day and age. I mean, you can barely see anything, amirite?

I agree with this 100%, the cameras don't even record in color? My point-and-shoot digital camera could flim better than that or even the camera on my cell phone.

They have great security cameras available: however, people are cheap and they only purchase what they absolutely need.

Well if a security camera is running 24/7 and only needs to be checked when there is a problem, they want the tape to be able to go for as long as it can before it needs to be changed. going up and changing tapes every couple of hours would be such a pain just to get better quality. Also they cost a lot more money and most people don't want to spend heaps of money on security cameras, infact, a lot of cameras don't even do anything and are just there for show.

It takes up a ton of memory space to record decent quality video, so to prevent having to buy some massive memory drive, they use low-quality video.
