Hey Frodo and crew, when Gandalf tells you that a balrog is coming to kill you, it doesn't mean to wait until it's right around the corner, it means to RUN FOR YOUR FUCKING LIVES, amirite?
....well, not really. When I was a child my LOTR-crazy father read them aloud to me over the course of a year hoping I would grow to share his obsession. He did the same thing with Star Trek episodes, and Star Wars.
Dang, a POTD I know nothing about and can't make a witty comment on.
On a side note, did you know that in all the Lord of the Rings movies, they used distance to make characters look bigger than other characters? They weren't actually that size.
Yep. Our chemistry teacher was telling us about it om the last day of school while everyone watched lord of the rings. It was pretty cool, and nicely done considering the time frame the movies were made in.
Did you know that in the first volume of LOTR Gandalf says to the Balrog, "You cannot pass," instead of "You shall not pass?" I was shaken when I read that in the book.
In the movie scene he turns around and immediately says, 'You cannot pass.' Then Frodo screams, 'Gandalf!', and then Gandalf does his whole 'Yooouuuu shall not paasssss.' thing.
Hey Bilbo and gang, when Gandalf and Beorn say STAY ON THE PATH in the forest on the way to the Lonely Mountain, they mean follow the path, not chase elves and get lost, captured by giant spiders, and locked in a dungeon.
I thought the movies were pretty well done. They obviously weren't perfect, but I think they captured the essence of the series rather well. And the music rocked. It's one of the few book to movie transitions I enjoyed. shudders at memories of Percy Jackson and Eragon
So, who actually read the bible.
crickets
hey, it might have been years ago, but yes. yes i did.
Oooh! Me! Me! Me!

But I still remember some bits!
It's been a while since I read the books, but I did.

And perspective. Like Gandalf's wagon and the table in the hobbit house are both in 2 different pieces.

Lol at "Frodo and crew"
You mean the Fellowship?
Oh, I actually didn't know there was a technical term for all of them. But now that you mention it, that makes total sense
What's do Frodo and Lebron James have in common?
They both lost the ring!
...but Frodo got his back.
haha he got banned?
Thought I'd let you know Gandalf is the shit! "You shall not pass!" is my favorite line from the trilogy.
You know that was a repost, he stole that from the French at Verdun in WW1.
Did you know that in the first volume of LOTR Gandalf says to the Balrog, "You cannot pass," instead of "You shall not pass?" I was shaken when I read that in the book.
Haha that's the shit too! Gandalf is just such a badass.
In the movie scene he turns around and immediately says, 'You cannot pass.' Then Frodo screams, 'Gandalf!', and then Gandalf does his whole 'Yooouuuu shall not paasssss.' thing.
Or you could make friends with it. and once you've earned it's trust beat it to death with a baseball bat.
Baseball Bat, why is it always a baseball bat?

Hey Bilbo and gang, when Gandalf and Beorn say STAY ON THE PATH in the forest on the way to the Lonely Mountain, they mean follow the path, not chase elves and get lost, captured by giant spiders, and locked in a dungeon.

Such an awesome comment! Exactly what I was thinking when I read the hobbit!
For some people, death might be somewhat of a hurdle. FUCK THAT.
The only thing I remember about the lord of the rings is "YOU SHALL NOT PASS"
HEY, thats cool!
insert lecture about how it actually ISN'T cool because of unoriginality

Oh Arrested Development, how I miss thee.
I know, they really need to make more seasons. But I think they are planning on making a movie
Ugh you know what sucks? Our trolls. We need some well-trained ones.
Sounds like a polarthebear type of troll.
<lolwut>
My favorite line in the movie is when Pippin asks where they are going after they decide to destroy the ring:)
I've only read the books. Didn't want another great series destroyed by the cinema so I haven't watched the movies D;

Isn't Balrog a character in Street Fighter2?
I instantly thought of the song Gold Watch when I read your comment
