There is a HUGE plot hole in a Little Mermaid. Hasn't Ariel ever heard of WRITING? I bet if she'd just calmly written the situation down in an explanation that Eric could understand, she could have saved herself a LOT of trouble, amirite?
Ariel signed the contract, but if I'm not mistaken, she used a feather. I don't think someone who didn't know what a fork was could see a pen and immediately get the idea of writing.
So, if a mysterious mute girl gave you a note that said "I'm really a mirmaid. I traded my voice for legs! Now kiss me or I'll turn back into a fish and lose my life!"
And you're like "K then" and kiss her? Not sure how well that would work...
That was the only thing that seemed unrealistic to you?
She's a fucking mermaid, how could she write?
She signed her name in a contract to Ursula. Bam.
In mermaidian... it might not be the same writing as human writing
Ah, fair enough. Or it might be in FIN-nish....I'm here all night :)
Ah, I do enjoy good puns, but it would be pretty fishy if that's what she signed it in, I would be curious as to how she learned the language.
Its her name. She might not be able to write other thigns as well.
And where would she learn to write.
Even if she could write english, she doesn't know any of the words because scuttle just tells her random crap when she asks . . .
Mermaids are illiterate?
Do mermaids know how to read or write?
"Hello Eric. I am a mermaid who has been recently transformed into a mermaid therefore I cannot speak."
Yea that would go over well, haha.
if she can't write she could have drawn out the situation
(NO!!!): how would she know how to draw? And if she did what if she sucked at it?
Would he even believe her?

BECAUSE THERE'D BE NO STORY.
1. Around the time it's set not everyone could read and/or write.
2. Even if she could sign her name that might have been all she knew.
plus, she couldn't tell him she was a mermaid, even in the beginning remember? her dad got all mad when she went to the surface or something.

Writing would probably be a lot different in water and on land
Why would she even know how to write for God's sake ! She's a freakin' Mermaid !
