+332 Why do people say "over-exaggerating"? It's as if there's an acceptable extent to which you can exaggerate, and any more than that is just...just no, amirite?

no, it's because you can exaggerate something up or exaggerate it down; over-exaggerating refers specifically to exaggerating something up, or more than what it was in reality.

Exaggerating already goes both ways, you don't need to add the extra words.

"You're over-exaggerating - you're exaggerating too much". "My math homework is as cruel as the treatment of blacks in America during slave years." = over-exaggerating. "My math homework is so cruel I got like 2 minutes of sleep because it took me so long." = exaggerating.
