As a person taking Spanish 1, I'd understand someone speaking Spanish a LOT more if they started talking slowly and loudly. Then I'd be able to hear what they said more clearly and probably understand.
Exactly! If someone were trying to talk to me in a different language, I would prefer them to talk slower because then I could take the time to process what they're saying!
I get the impression that such is mostly people who only speak one language, which generally means westerners
