+162 Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed, amirite?

Pretty sure a lot of christians would vote this down if they realised that their oppressor is God, and according to them he doesn't take demands.

Assuming God's existence and unlimited power, God can definitely be seen as an oppressor. We might have rights and freedom, but those being massacred by their own government in Syria have neither. That's like saying racists in the 19th century weren't oppressors because they allowed white people to live freely and happily. And I'm sure you're thinking that the events in Syria are a result of human greed rather than God's actions. But if God has unlimited power, he has the power to help those being oppressed without the need of bloodshed. At best, he's a bystander that is allowing atrocities to occur; he's far from a liberator.

If they willingly gave freedom, by definition they wouldn't be an oppresser.

I dunno. Slavery was abolished in the British empire mostly because they decided it wasn't very cricket, though it took them a while. And wasn't it the same in the northern states? Slave revolts were never a big problem, or that's what I was taught.
