I'm not talking about being apathetic to others, but just thinking about the enormity of the situation constantly would be too much. Like, another example - you know you're going to die. You know your friends, family, teachers, workmates, everyone you know and love is going to die. But you'd go nuts if you spent too much time thinking about it.

I was just using his quote to show that, although we as individuals are inconsequential on the grand scale, we have the ability to mean the world to the people in our lives. And yeah, both the thoughts about personal insignificance and the certainty of death are on my mind a lot. It fuels my pessimism.
