+420 The video game bill that's making the rounds now is targeting the wrong people. Its not the game developer's fault that parents are buying M-rated games for their 7-year-olds, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wait, what bill? What's it about?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's requiring all video game makers to put a 2" x 2" label on all M-rated games saying why it's rated M, the game makers must keep certain things out of their games (though there's no set list), and they face a $2,000 fine if a copy of a M-rated game is found to be in the possession of someone under 17. (Rockstar's gonna go bankrupt).

Yeah, what video game bill?

- Wow. My first thought was "that's really gonna destroy some great covers." I think that's bull. If parents are so concerned about their children playing violent video games, they'd actually do some parenting and perhaps not let their kid own such games. It's as simple as that. It's pretty obvious that GTA is not for a five year old. :| And I really, really, really hate the censorship part. I plan on going into the video game industry, and I would hate to see a brilliant idea ruined by one small detail. (Lmao, true dat.)

I've seen kids younger than ten getting games like Halo and CoD. The parents either don't know what the game is about or don't care. It's sad.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Halo and CoD are pretty tame, let's be honest..

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Hmm. I probably shouldn't have said under ten. More like under six. :P

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Not really, my little brother has been watching me and my older play violent videogames since he could talk, and has been playing them since he was 7 and we bought him an xbox. Violent videogames haven't proven to have a negitive effect on children

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Never said it did, brah. I was making a point about the parents' willingness to buy the games.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I completely read your comment wrong. My apologies

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No problem, haha. I honestly don't care if little kids play violent games, I was just putting my two cents in.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Does it apply to canada?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It may ruin the covers of your games, but it really wouldn't affect Canada any other way

by Anonymous 13 years ago

F Yeah! I can still get persona 5 when it comes out...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thats dumb. it seems like the government has a habit of blaming the wrong people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It should be up to the parents to decide if their child is able to handle such a game without it having a negative effect on them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

overall Crime rates are actually decreasing every year so this whole thing is bs. Censorship is retarded.

I don't think video game stores should sell M games to people under the age of 17, and if a parent is buying it, the salesperson should tell the parent what is in the game. The developer doesn't control who buys the games, that's the store's job. If my mom knows what is in a violent game and she still wants to buy it for my 11 yr old brother, then goshdarnit she should be able to.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Some stores around where I live do limit the age of who can buy M rated games. They check ID and everything.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

But that's not the problem, it's the parents buying the game for their kids that's the porblem

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's the gayest bill ever, I'd like to see the government completely prove with any doubt that an M game negative effects on ALL children under 17. Also, that's sorta kinda limiting free speech. Just saying.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You played a video game or watched a movie when you didn't have the right age and it didn't affect you in any way. Amirite?
