But those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. "Don't know" is interchangeable with "forget" "Then" is not interchangeable with "than" however.

Maybe that's why doomsday 2012 is going to happen. We learned about history, and now there's no more of it to be made. At least if we let history repeat itself, we would still have a future.

Interestingly, this post still works with "then" instead of "than." However, I don't think the intent was that a 5th grader does something to make history and then gets to learn about it in high school.
