If people didn't have taste buds, nobody would be fat, amirite?
by Anonymous12 years ago
A study on mice that lost their ability to taste found that they detected and preferred to drink water with added sugar over plain water. The mice subsequently became obese drinking the sugar-water without even being able to taste the difference. Your brain controls appetite, not your taste buds.

Yeah but you'd still have no clue what food tastes like if you had never been able to taste it, therefore never craving the taste of it. Sure, people would still be fat because sight and smell contribute to appetite, but not as many because a lot of people just like the taste of certain unhealthy food which is why they eat so much of it.

Even without the ability to taste, your brain would quickly learn that junk food contained more calories than, say, broccoli, and it would drive you to eat more of the junk food.
Btw, since you said "people would still be fat", then you disagree with the post, too. The post said "nobody would be fat".

I actually didn't vote either way, because I don't feel like NOBODY would be fat, but I also feel it might help even just a little bit.

A lot of people overeat not because the food tastes good, but because they're depressed.
