It used to be that way. My first iPod only worked with the mac. Granted it was like THE first iPod. It didn't know any better...

They wouldn't ever do that though, they would lose so much money. No one's going to run out and buy a thousand dollar laptop just to use their iPod, they would just go and get a different MP3 player
