+367 It sucks when you get paid less than somebody for doing the exact same job as them just because you're younger. amirite?

No, it doesn't suck. In parts of Europe, that's exactly how it is - you get paid according to your age/responsibilities. For example, a father of four WILL get paid more than a college student, even for the same job. It may suck temporarily now for the college student but when he himself becomes a father and has a family back home that depends on his pay check, he will be grateful for it.

Fair enough, but I'm saying that is SUCKS out of principle. It's like two students doing the exact same work for a project, putting the same amount of effort, dedication and skill in, and one getting a higher mark for a reason that has no relation to the project/task itself. The situation about a family provider vs a younger person is fair enough, but that being said that is not always the case. For instance, at work I do the exact same job as somebody who is a couple years my senior but they get paid a considerable amount more..and neither of us is providing for a family etc. I can understand where you're coming from but I'm saying regardless, it sucks when you get less money for doing the same amount of work as somebody else.

If they are your senior because they've been there longer than you have, then yes, they likely worked up to their raises. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with this, even if you are doing the same job. Provided, of course, that after you work a similar amount of time, your pay also gets raised. However, people are going to take advantage of the aforementioned principle no matter what - they'll make excuses to pay certain people less and others more. Favouritism happens; there's nothing you can do about it, sadly. Still, just because the people are messed does not mean that there is a flaw in the principle.

No but in my instance, I was hired the same time as the other person! Just as much experience etc, the only difference being that I am younger and get less pay. How is that fair?

Well, the logical thing to do would be to take your frustration off the internet and to channel it in an adult fashion: Respectfully ask your boss what you need to work on in order to make further advancement within the company.
