I'm a deist, so I believe in A god, but not necessarily just "god"

I can't prove that (s)he exists, nor can I prove that (s)he doesn't exist. The honest answer is that no one /knows/ whether or not he exists, but of course many people claim that they do.

i agree with the first post. i am a deist also, but perhaps even agnostic. the concept of faith is not irrational. actually, it is essentially beyond rationality. people who are religious cannot all be irrational. as a result, they/we acknowledge the fact that what we believe in is essentially impossible, but we nonetheless believe in it rationally. rationality is all relative. also, those who propose the notion that being atheist provides a complete understanding of the universe and the ability to "lift yourself up by your own bootstraps", and consequently they live freely are contradictory. why do atheists have a constant ovsession with being factually right? i say that i can truly live freely because i choose to believe in God. thatis ultimate freedom. even if the actual state of the universe was that God doesnt exist, i could still attribute my actions and faith towards God and the freedom that i am capable of believing in God allowed to me.

No offense to anyone, but I find it kind of hard to believe that there is a man/woman(God) that is in the sky or heaven or whatever that no one ever sees/hears from until they die. and if you don't worship or believe in this God then you go to a place where you will burn, cry, be tortured etc. for eternity...but he loves you. I am an athiest. I am not against religious people and I could care less what you believe, but religion has caused a lot of pointless problems and it could all be solved by people not talking about religion in public. Church is for religion, and i believe it should stay there.

It's not just religion..it's a relationship with God :) and He does love you..But he's giving you free will and you have to choose if you want to be with Him or not...there is nothing in the way of having a relationship with Him. I love Him so much and He helps me through all of my problems :) He is for sure my best friend :)

I am an atheist, but not a disrespectful one. Everything i have ever learned in History says that Religion is created because people need a safety net. That being said, religion is the basis of civilization. Whatever the answer is, i think some Religion is messed up. It should do more good than harm, but that doesn't always happen, does it?
