I typically side with the happy, hippy family over the strict, rich one.

Same, but I usually go against the more lax family if they're lazy/don't work/on welfare/kids out of control. I side with the hippie family usually, because like you said, they seem happier, and more relaxed. But if it's obvious that they're too relaxed, so the family unit isn't working, I go with the more strict family if it's obvious that their excess rules are more or less effective, ya know?
