Question concerning god: What good is it for us to have free will if the intention is for us to not use it? Sure, we can use our free will, but we will burn in hell for eternity if we do, amirite?
oh I get what you're saying. It appears we have both interpreted the post in different ways. What I got was this: we can reject the notion of a god as a result of or free will and can in turn, according to the bible, suffer for all of eternity, which is what I thouht the op was getting at and has a problem with. Not just one simple mistake as you said, which yes, I agree is a bit ignorant
I think that's it's because God wants us to make the right choices. If we just did the right thing because we had no choice, it wouldn't really mean anything.
that's part of the answer. Also, if we weren't punished for our free will, where would God's need for justice and purity be? Any good parent will let their children choose, but if the children choose wrongly, they are disciplined. It's part of the learning process. Hopefully God's message gets through before you choose your final destination.
God loves us and wants everyone to be with him. But not just anybody can be, because God is holy and we are not. Only through faith in Him can we be justified. Note: not by works, but through faith. When we become new creations in Christ, we will have the Spirit and will have a new nature that wants to please God.
"Also, if we weren't punished for our free will, where would God's need for justice and purity be? Any good parent will let their children choose, but if the children choose wrongly, they are disciplined."
But what sort of parent wants to punish their children so that they can administer justice?
You have free will. However, some choices are always going to be better than others. You don't ask "What's the point of having free will? If I decide to go smoke crack I might die!"
I believe that even if you don't believe in God, but you're still a good decent person, you won't be 'burning in hell for all of eternity.' I don't think it works like that.
Exactly. Most people who believe in God believe that He is kind and forgiving. I have a hard time believing He would ever punish decent people who don't worship Him in such a way.
May I ask, your Highness, why?
It's a perfectly legitimate question, and you responded pretty rudely.
You were supposed to be speechless. That would've made this whole thing so much more interesting.

They were just asking a question. Personally, I don't think it's narrow-minded. I think it's a good question, I'd also like to know the answer.

Thank you. You made your point very well and I agree.

Ah, okay. That makes sense. Thank you.
