+142 As much as we criticize celibacy within the Catholic clergy, we have to keep in mind that the decision to remain 'untouched' is theirs and not ours. When a person takes upon that responsibility, they pledge to be a living example of an untarnished church, a symbol of purity. Though we may disagree with the practice, and certainly the consequences therein, nun of us is right to judge them, amirite?

I agree with this, and not just for people who choose not to have sex for religion reasons. "Prude-shaming" is just as bad as "slut-shaming". How much or how little sex another person has is their own business.

All of that, just for one little pun. Haha

I see what you did there...

The celibacy rule of the Catholic clergy was made to ensure that high positions in the church wouldn't be hereditary like many political positions (nobility). It really didn't have much to do with purity. I wish I could cite that information for you, but I don't remember what book I read it in. I think it's high time that the Catholic Church got rid of the celibacy rule. That way, millions of people who want a family could still be priests and the church wouldn't have to settle for child molesting creepers.

Actually there are many reasons for celibacy in the Catholic Church. One of which is that by living celibate, a priest or a nun is a sign to the rest of the people that we live not for this world but for the next. They also live celibate so that all of their time can be devoted to Christ, and they are free from the responsibilities of a family. They put their work for Christ and His Church ahead of their own desires. Oh, and I got the pun and that was the initial reason for liking this post. I was just interested to see the comments.
