Why is it when people name elements, they name them after the place they found/discovered them? If I was the main person who discovered the element, I would name it after myself, so my name would be on a document that is seen by millions each year, amirite?

I bet many of them were discovered by a team who are proud of the place they work at

A lot of them do, but some people discovered multiple elements. Like Rutherford, who named Rutherfordium after himself and then made other elements named after different people/places
