I feel sorry for peadophiles, just like homosexuals they cannot chose who they love

I don't think pedophilia is about an adult loving a child, I think it's about having power and control over a child. Also, sexual desire doesn't connote love.

I think it's about their lack of emotional development. They feel as though they're on the same level as children.

My theory is that they somehow enjoy innocence and/or corrupting innocence. But I still wouldn't blame them for that, because it's probably something they were born with and can't change. But then, different people are different, and different people may be attracted to children for different reasons.

Hmm. Maybe in some instances, but overall I don't think I agree with that. From what I've read about it, power really is key. I think perhaps most were abused or traumatized in their past (sexually or otherwise) and are acting out on it by victimizing someone else. Although I'm sure there are several reasons (causes?) for pedophilia, and some really are just sexually attracted to pre-pubescent bodies. I've know several people who were victims of it and that led me to try and understand why it happens. My "research" however wasn't all that extensive, and I admit I'm no expert.

Well either way it's a fetish or sexual preference or something, and either way, they still didn't choose it and can't really do anything about it but control themselves (unless they want to get arrested and traumatize a child). And I think they (probably) know that love and sexual attraction aren't the same, maybe they just weren't sure how to phrase it or were too embarrassed to say sexual attraction or something. :P

I'm not really sure I believe that ... I don't think pedophiles are born, I think (as I mentioned I'm my reply to mchristie) that through traumatic and abusive childhoods, they are created. That's just my opinion, though. My opinion that's backed up with all kinds of scientific fact and evidence to support it. XD

There is, however, the undeniable fact that most have lower than average IQs, which brings me back to the development. But, in the end, everyone is different, so you can't really pinpoint all causes and cases.

Okay, that does make sense. Does that still imply that they don't choose it and can't really change it, or are you implying that they explicitly choose to hurt children because they'd been hurt as one?

Honestly I'm generalizing. I think there are people born with a natural desire for children, and though it is disturbing that doesn't necessarily make them bad people. (If they don't act out on it, of course.) But as far as the sexual abuse of children goes, given what I've read and heard it seems as though the people involved don't have a natural perversion so much as an extreme bully mentality.

They can get help - I know there are special councillors for people who feel sexually attracted to children. If they've already molested a child, that's another matter, and the councillor will have to report them, but if they haven't acted on their feelings, they won't be.

Yeah, I feel sorry for them too. They have as much as a choice in it as gay people do (that is, none), but no matter what, it'll never be possible for them to do anything with the type of people they're attracted to without it being illegal/abuse.

I never said there wasn't a link! I was just pointing out that society today is totally "Pro-gay" and "Lock up the perverts!" when it used to be considered the same.
