mutal repect. you always hear adults say to 1 respect your elders and 2 if you want to be respected then you need to be respectful, but sometimes they expect respect without giving it.

Yeah I get that, you didn't answer why though, you just restated your opinion. I was about to say that respect is earned but I can see it has already been said.

I agree. Being an adult doesn't get you automatic respect. You have to earn that.

Respect is earned. I don't respect adults whom I've just met, and I wouldn't expect them to respect me without reason.

So you don't care if after sot respecting them, that person walks away thinking you're rude? Or jeez, what did I do to that kid? I was only making conversation. I always respect everyone I meet, and the only time I don't is when they have proved that they don't deserve it.

I won't disrespect them, and I'll be polite. I just won't actually respect them (or not respect them) until I get to know them better.
