+214 Paying prostitutes in 19th century Britain must have been one of the biggest juxtapositions in history. It's like, "Here you are my dear, three pounds and two shillings for your services, and might I say you look positively dashing tonight?" amirite?

I still pay them like that

I reckon that most of them wouldn't have been all gentleman-ly in private.

Only me that noticed the completely incorrect use of 'juxtaposition' then?

A juxtaposition occurs when you take two opposite concepts and apply them next to each other. In this situation, the ungentlemanly concept of paying for sex is placed alongside the stereotypically gentlemanly form of the Victorian British man. It was used correctly, in other words.

I first starting learning about Victorian England from Jack the Ripper murdering prostitutes, so in my mind they were similar concepts.

...It's best if you ignore Jack the Ripper. wary

Try telling that to the last group of women to give him the cold shoulder.
