+240 At its core, socialism and communism aren't that bad, but it's the people that make it corrupt, amirite?

You can say that for Capitalism, too, and any other form of government.

Reading the POTD and then this comment. Fantastic.

Right. One of the main reasons why it didn't work in the Soviet Union is that the ruling party members actually kept a disproportionately large amount of the state's wealth for themselves.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That and the fact nobody wanted to do shit after they realized they'll get the same amount of pay no matter how hard they work....

I agree, that's why it bothers me so much when people accuse politicians for being socialist or communist because there is nothing wrong with those beliefs. The basis of having police or firefighters is socialism so why is there a huge uproar for having universal healthcare?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What exactly is socialism? Anywhere i look up is biased.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well depending on who you ask you'll get an opinion based answer; I was raised by socialists so I believe we should use a system like socialism. I don't think I would be objective in answering your question so here is the link to the World Socialist Movement website http://www.worldsocialism.org/articles/what_is_socialism.php I hope it answers your questions

Oh okay. I think i understand better now. Thanks!

It's kinda interesting when people say communism is basically the apocalypse because the 2nd richest/most powerful nation in the world is communist. I'm not saying the US should become communist, but they're clearly not as bad as we think, financially. Also, people say that their money is being taken away to help the people who don't work, but by that logic we should get rid of the army, the police force, firefighters, public education, homeless shelters, financial aid for college, the building of public structures such as bridges, roads, and stoplights, social security, libraries, post offices, and jails. In my opinion, a mixed economy is the best economy. We need work ethic, competition and to be able to advance financially, as well as a safety net to fall back on if something happened to us. The people whining about socialism are also the ones commuting to work on a socialist road and sending their children to a socialist school.

In my opinion Communism sucks. And so does your silly opinion.

Okay.

Thank you for submitting such an insightful and eye-opening counterargument.

The first lesson my economics teacher taught us was that all governments look good in theory but people corrupt.
