So... you could say that personification is a friend of yours? Or that seeing personification doing his job makes you smile? :)

yeah isn't an onomatopoeia when a sound is the same as the word? Wow is just a word

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah, I couldn't think of how to put 'whoosh' or 'bang' in there, so I put in something that sounded right... oops.

a metaphor is not a simile

by Anonymous 13 years ago

metaphor: a comparison without using 'like' or 'as'. I used a metaphor to describe metaphor.

A simile being like a metaphor is not itself a simile, because it's not finding a shared quality or qualities between otherwise unlike entities. The point is to emphasize the similarity by contrasting it with the apparent disparity -- people aren't much like bears, but someone may be strong like a bear. Similarly, "a metaphor is a simile" is not a metaphor; it's just wrong. For a metaphor to work, the compared things have to be different enough that it's obvious that it is one particular shared quality that is being implicitly referred to. As it stands, the statement simply reads as claiming that the two words are synonyms. Also, I don't know whether "wow" is an onomatopoeia or just an exclamation or interjection or something.
