+14 Even if you prefer the Imperial System over the Metric, you must admit that cups, pints, quarts, and gallons are annoying and confusing. amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Metric is actually a lot better, everything makes sense.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Except, ya know, the metric part...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Metric is all based off of 10, which is what we count in, so we are used to it. The prefixes for everything is the same. (milli-, centi-, deci-, deka-, hecto-, kilo-, and many more in both directions) The only thing that changes is the base unit (grams, liters, meter, second) The english has all sorts of weird conversion factors (12 inches in a foot, 3 feet to a yard, and all the volume ones are really weird) Why do you say the customary system is better?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, I went to kindergarten, I know how the metric system works. I'm simply saying that apart from two things: A) The pint quarts ect. and B) the fact that the inch is cut into 16 pieces, the imperial system is better and easier to use.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Except the part where it isn't In metric, every unit works the same all across the board, all that changes is what is being measured In customary, every unit is different (like the ones i listed before, as well as every other unit in customary) Dimensional Analysis is so much easier in metric to do in your head, it is much easier to multiply/divide by 10 in your head rather than whatever funky number the customary unit you happen to be using is

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes but we are already used to it, so we know it better and work better with it. Why do people from other countries always have a problem with America not using the metric system?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Oh yes, just because Americans work better with something means that the system is better than what the rest of the world uses. (sarcasm) Because other than two very small African countries, we are the only people not on the metric system. http://site.despair.com/blog/2007/10/18/2008-demotivator-tradition/

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So, because most other people use it, we HAVE to use it too? Didn't your mom ever tell you not to give in to peer pressure? Also, Canada partially uses the Imperial System.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We don't absolutly have to, but it would make a metric butt-ton of sense to do so, so Americans aren't completely clueless when they travel and see things that aren't customary. Oh, part of Canada does? Well part of Canada completely trumps all of Europe, South America, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica!!! I mean, one country and part of another is certainly grounds to say that the customary system, which makes no sense, is far superior to the metric system, where everything is based off of how we count everyday.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Well, all I can say is that A) I don't plan on traveling much, and B) Even if I did, I know the metric system well enough to not make an ignorant foreigner

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*of myself. Sorry, forgot the last part.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, and just because you won't means that the entirety of the country will stop going out of the country all because YOU don't want to. My God, please think outside of yourself and your own life and opinions and think of others please You still have failed to provide any facts whatsoever as to why the customary system is better than the metric system (which it isn't).

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Ok, so I should be punished for other peoples' ignorance? Yes I did, we are used to it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, we should switch to metric because the entire world uses it and international communication would become a lot easier. "We are used to it" is NOT support for the customary system being better than metric. Support for the metric system is that it makes much more sense and is uniform throughout. Just as the picture from the link I posted- "Just because that is the way you have done it doesn't mean it is incredibly stupid"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I honestly don't see why you're getting so worked up about this... I prefer the Imperial system, what is wrong with that? You guys should be lucky America let's you share the planet with us, considering we have the power to knock you off of said planet!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I am American, btw Still no evidence or reason as to why customary system is better? Oh wait, there isn't any. And no, we should be grateful other nations let us share the world with them, as most of America, like you, are complete assholes who think we are better than everyone else when we really aren't. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal" Recognize that? It's from the Declaration of Independence, when we separated from Britain due to tyrannical rule. "All men are created equal". America has no more right to the earth than other nation, no matter how powerful we are.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I already told you! Also, it would cost BILLIONS of dollars to switch to the metric system, which we don't have right now. "America are"... Wows.Look, I explained to you why the Imperial system is better for us and I am not going to argue any further. You obviously hate America, why don't you move somewhere else?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Except it isn't better for us. And I do not hate America, just the customary system and assholes like you who are too ignorant to see plain sense right in front of you!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, by your own words, you hate most Americans.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No, just the ignorant assholes like you America is a great country founded on great principles that the current House majority refuse to follow. Yes, I just said that. Most of the Conservatives are ignorant assholes. Like the Tea Party, the yell at Obama for not reaching across the isle and then brag about how obstructionist they will be. That is the height of ignorance and hypocrisy!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You said most of America are a-holes, and then you said that you hate a-holes like me, which you said most of America are. Therefore, you hate most of America.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The word "America" there refers to the American people, not America as a country. I also rather enjoy how you never denied you are an asshole, made me laugh a bit Now stop dicking around and give me one valid reason why the metric system is worse than the customary system. "Because that is the way we have always done it", or "It's better for us" are not reasons why the metric system is worse. Those are reasons why it isn't necessarily feasible for us to switch, which is what you should have said in the first place. But your chance to do that has far been passed. Now, why is the customary system better?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

BECAUSE WE ARE USED TO IT AND IT IS EASIER FOR US! THE SI IS BETTER FOR EVERYONE ELSE BECAUSE THEY ARE USED TO IT AMD IT IS EASIER FOR THEM! NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY THAT IS IN FACT A VALID ARGUEMENT!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That is not a valid argument as to why the system is better, it is a valid argument as to why it is infeasible for the US to switch, but that is not the point you are trying to make, you are saying the customary system as a whole is better than the metric system as a whole, which simply isn't true. Metric makes a lot more sense and is universal throughout. The customary system is not universal throughout and has different conversions for almost every unit. If you had an intelligence higher than that of the average chimp you would have been able to read my last message which said exactly that.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You are apperently a moron, so I am going to stop replying now...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So I, the one who has been making more sense in this argument, is the moron? All you have to do is supply one reason why the customary system is superior to metric (not why the US shouldn't switch, refer to the systems as they exist) and I will leave you alone. "Because we are used to it" and "it would cost too much to switch" are both great arguments are to why the US shouldn't switch, not why the customary system is better.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes, you "is" a moron, according to your grammar.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I like how you completely evade the actual point and focus on something petty and insignificant. Fix that please.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm waiting intently for your reply and your reason why the American system is better than the metric with that reason related back to the systems and not just "We're used to it", as that is a reason for America not to switch, rather than why the customary system is better, as that is what you have said.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

reply please You made a point, now back it up with valid reasons, a thing with which I have yet to see you do. I have read much about your famed debating skills, but now I see you're just a load of bull.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Nothing? Pity, I was having fun destroying you I win

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You, sir, have been owned

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Still nothing? What a pity...
