Because, until recently, there were more English Speakers than Spanish Speakers, and you can't just announce to the world "Hey, our official language is Spanish now!" And expect any sort of change. It'll take a bit.

Are we counting descendants of immigrants immigrants as well? If so, then every white, black, Asian and some Latinos are immigrants. If no, then most of the people that racists complain about are not immigrants as most families have been here for at least one generation.

There isn't really any valid reason to not want immigrants coming over. You say that they're coming over illegally so that's the issue, but the real issue should be making it legal. They go to hospitals and schools without paying taxes, but so do a TON of poor citizens, so it's not like they're doing anything different.
