Because then it wouldn't be interesting. Who wants to watch a TV show about a perfect couple with no problems? Even if it's not in the relationship per se, every TV show or story needs conflict. In TV shows about high schoolers, cheating on your boyfriend with his best friend is what works. And from my high school experiences, it's not too far-fetched.

t.v makes that seem okay when it's not. if they stopped making shows where it's okay to cheat maybe people would take it more seriously.
