+508 The Silent Treatment is the one of the most annoying things a person can use against you, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And painful too. Silence is sometimes so much louder than words..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not to mention one of the most immature. Seriously. Use your words.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

FUCK YOU! Now, wouldn't you rather I had just given you the silent treatment?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'd rather you not be a big cup of insta-douche, but we can't all have what we want.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well that wasn't really one of the options. You mentioned you prefered words, so that's what you got.

i wouldnt say its immature. its pretty immature to sit there and fight about things that wont change, id say. walking away takes a lot of will power. no, i wouldnt say its immature at all.

Not talking to someone is one thing; giving them the 'Silent Treatment' is another. If you're not talking to someone to intentionally hurt them or piss them off, then you're just fueling the fire. That's immature, and it's mainly what 12 year old girls do to get back at each other. Not talking to someone to avoid conflict or to take time to figure things out is different. That's constructive silence, and not immature.

(Fabiola) and (Heysoulsister): I agree with you both! If it's someone you care about, and they're ignoring you because you hurt them, it can hurt you in return. If it's your best friend and they're doing it over a petty argument, it's just plain annoying and immature.

(Anonymous): The silent treatment is immature. I know the last time anyone I knew seriously used it was when I was like 13. It is not okay to ignore someone who is calmly and earnestly trying to make amends or talk things out. Some might call it rude...We were taught to use our words, and we can be civilized about it. Yes, cursing your head off as an alternative is also immature. Like our elementary school teachers said, people should learn to use their "inside voices." However, if you cannot be a civilized adult, perhaps using the Silent Treatment would be better, or better yet, avoidance of the person who has angered you might work until you both simmer down, and no, walking away is not the same thing as the Silent Treatment.

I find the silent treatment the easiest to deal with actually. There's no verbal abuse or physical abuse due to the anger, and it seems to let each individual calm down. Well... as long as it dosen't last too long, or else the friendship will basically end altogether. That's just how I see it...
