+252 Making generalizations about someone because they're American is the same as making generalizations about someone because of their race: it's hurtful. amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I just let them be ignorant bastards. It's their loss for trying to gain an extra enemy because they want to make assumptions about Americans.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

yet most if not all generalizations are true

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not sure why people are voting this negatively; it's true. For example: Americans, you've never heard of the following country: Palau. I could name 50 more countries. Don't vote this negatively, 'cause you know you're ignorant about ther outside world.

I'm American, and I just don't give a fuck about what people say? It's not hurtful because I don't care.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

In other words, you're ignorant.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not everyone gets all hurt because people that don't even LIVE in America make assumptions. Those people are ignorant, and if what they say actually hurts you, I think you have bigger problems.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Being American is a race.... what you said is the same thing =/

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, it's an ethnicity

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They are basically the same thing...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

More proof of Americans' ignorance. I love it how Americans say they're not ignorant, but they are.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Hurtful? Don't take things so seriously. I'm British and we get mocked for having bad teeth and I don't take it to heart because it's not true for me. It's only hurtful if it's truthful, otherwise it should mean nothing to you.

It's almost as annoying as Americans making generalisations abpout British people, like how we all supposedly have immaculate manners, strong posh accents, drink a lot of tea and how basically the only city in the whole of England is London.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I honestly haven't seen anyone making generalizations about British people on here....

by Anonymous 12 years ago

They weren't specifically talking about on here. On TV that's apparently how we all speak, Iv never hears Anyone talk like that and if you heard my English accent you wouldn't guess I was English!!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh, then I've only heard one of those generalizations about British people, that they drink a lot of tea. I would much rather have people make a generalization about what we drink than about how "stupid" we are...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

When/where do people make you out to be stupid? (Im asking in general way not argumentative) Are you American?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well mainly on this site..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well the thing about the Internet is you dont know who is on the other side of the screen. It could be an American or some guy who thinks he is being hilarious. That's the other thing about the Internet, you can't read between the lines.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But you have think logically, why would an American want to call himself stupid?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I thought I kinda implied it, like if it's meant in a jokey way, if an American wrote it he might just be an easy going guy who doesn't take things too seriously. If you can't laugh at yourself who can you laugh at? People discriminate all the time, you just can't let things like that get to you otherwise you will never escape from it, it's everywhere.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh, I wish it was just American's making fun of themselves, but I highly doubt that..

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's just annoying and makes us ashamed :(

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm American and voted this down. It's stupid. Liloquand had a good point about the truth thing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Especially those niggers.
