My high school used tape for some lines. I taught them a lesson by peeling it.

lol, cool. I was actually referring to the rectangle under the basket (you know, between the free throw line and the endline) that is nicknamed "the paint". Baskets scored in this area are known as "points in the paint" and indicate a physical, aggressive playing style. Some courts leave this area unpainted just like the wood everywhere else on the court. I find basketball court and football field design schemes interesting, so I notice these things.
