One or two songs about this guy to get over him, I can understand. But, with Adele, it's all that's been on her entire two albums! She's been singing about this guy for *years* now. He actually sued her after she became famous for not compensating him (monetarily) for the inspiration. Obviously, he isn't some amazing guy. And she hasn't turned her "depression" into a song; she's using her music to wallow in a miasma of self-pity. She just needs to get over it already—and should probably seek psychological help. (She said it would take over twenty years for her to get over this guy. Really, drama queen?) And you don't think other artists have ever been heartbroken? (Or have made a song while heartbroken?) Adele is nothing special—even worse, actually . . . Other artists can actually move on with their lives.

This is so true. My thoughts exactly. I actually enjoyed her music... until I heard every song AND EVERY FUCKING SONG is about the same douche. GET OVER HIM. It's just so pathetic. Everyone has been deeply in love and has experienced the loss, so stop making a scene. Plus, she's fat. She can do that too. I mean moving on. She's just doing it in a wayyyy slower pace than others. At the same time when she does something, she does it wayyyyy more authentic than other singers, that's all. She moving slower, the only consequence of that is she won't have such a long road as the others that's all. Well, she can do it that way or other case is like Amy Winehouse, Avicii... They had a great potential too, but just a flash in the pan as they couldn't bear pressure of the industry either and they committed self-suicide. Adele's way at least is steadfast.

You know guys, I don't know who any of you are, but I feel a strong kinship with the majority of the commenters and the original poster. Why? Because NO ONE in my fucking life seems to agree with me that Adele is an annoying, overrated, mainstream piece of shit. I have tons of friends who listen to, or at least attempt to, innovative/creative/experimental/progressive music, but even most of them say, "Shut up, she has an amazing voice," blah blah blah... I don't care how "amazing" her voice is, it's really loud and obnoxious. I like my singers to have a little more subtlety instead of yelling their hearts out at me. And yes, I get that it's supposed to be expressive and soulful, but the fact is it's in your face and overbearing. Actually I'm from Europe and I love her music, and also nearly the whole GB and I'm sure there aren't just stupid people here and there, many educated person can enjoy her music too. It is the question of taste and if you are intelligent enough you know that too. Of course there are other artists, all artists in the world works for being relatable in some way so that people can connect to a story, a song, etc. That's the very core of art, everybody knows it. The fact that you can't just means you relate with others better, that's why you feel they're better, tho in reality it is just different. In Adele's case she just dares to be the kinda rebel, she wants to do music in her own set of rules and since in art there aren't actually any rules, she can do that in the way she wants. I crank up one of Adele's songs (or a song from an equally annoying band--Lady Antebellum, Katy Perry, etc.) and see how much I can take (the most I lasted was 45 seconds) and when I reach the breaking point, I tune in to some Rob Zombie, Metallica, Rammstein, etc. to counteract the drivel from overrated skanks (a.k.a modern divas)

I wrote here earlier that she is filling a kinda long-forgotten part of the industry, this classy Aretha Franklin style in a modern way. Not many singers dare to go to that field, although there are some, just not many. My feelings exactly. Her loud, overbearing style, lots of sustained, flat notes, and her pretentious slurring pronunciations annoy the hell out of me. Even more annoying is that so many people I know seem to be caught up in the hype. What's kind of sad is that I think that Adele could be a good singer with a little coaching and some better songs. I get the idea that because she has this loud, piercing voice, she is self-indulgent and has not learned to control it better. That, plus her songs are really just repetitive and vacuous. The songs seem to be designed to highlight her ability to sustain loud notes for a long time. Nice for her, but not interesting to listen to.

I'm sensing some jealousy...maybe u wanted to be a big-time artist, but had to resort to being a music teacher instead? I wonder if ur instructing ur students (if u have any) to sing sharper than they should be. If she's a little bit flat, it's in the style of the music. I've never heard her be "out of tune" or in the wrong key. Ur hyper-analyzing, and clearly jealous. I like how no one has mentioned an artist that is DOING IT RIGHT. Should we be listening to and admiring Ke$sha? How about Niki Minaj? Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson are up there talent-wise, and both have given mad props to Adele. Just cuz u don't like Adele, doesn't make her over-rated. She's well-lauded in the audio and musical production communities....that's why u only see her getting "dissed" on weird sites like this. SMH.........

She has a great PR team. That is all. They are hyping the Adele one night only gig with Oprah like it is the second coming. Her pattern is she has releases albums using a boring number name. How creative is that? Then she goes on a concert tour and because she does not use proper vocal techniques, she winds up losing her voice. Then she disappears for a few years and comes back with a huge PR buildup and titles her new album with, you guessed it, another Number. But carry on. People seem to love her maudlin lyrics. IMO, Adele is much ado about nothing.

10,000: Number of unknown women on YouTube who can sing circles around Adele. There is nothing special about her voice. She hollers and yells and has a mediocre vibrato. People think she's great because she's been heavily marketed and has a pretty face, pouty lips and fluttering eyelashes. If she looked like Susan Boyle nobody would care much and her YouTube video would never have been noticed by that recording exec who discovered her. Susan Boyle could sing circles around her.

it's a good song so thanks for that. But tbh to say this is better than any of hers is depending on someone's taste. The mere fact I hear this one for the first time (I'm in my 30s) speaks for itself. When I was teenager there plenty of these kinda songs on radio and most of them went down the drain, we can't hear them now. Whereas Adele's songs has some quality to it, a quality that will stand the test of time. Maybe not everybody but I am pretty sure that there will be people decades later who will listen to her songs. Like we do play and read Shakespeare's up until this very day. Yes what she represents is a very classical style, the one that brings back memories and vibes of the sixties, seventies but since there is such a hole in that area in the industry, it can work. It is a style that not anyone can do well. Not to say that other's are easier but everybody has to use their quilities in the area that fits the best for him/her.

You have to look at the current musical landscape. She's a popular artist doing "soul" music in the modern day. I can only imagine what u guys think a talented female vocalist SHOULD sound like lol...ask urselves that, please. We've basically got Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus.....and....Kesha lol. Honestly, Beyonce and Hudson throw huge amounts of respect towards Adele for her talent. If u guys dont like what's on the radio, change the fkn channel. BTW, the people here agreeing with u are a TINY fraction of the population, and are like the weirdos in the back that fkn HATE EVERYTHING, usually cuz their LIVES SUCK.

Personally, I really don't see why anybody likes Adele as much as they do. There are singers out there with better voices, and I think it's really annoying and boring that pretty much ALL of her songs are about breakups!

I agree with the original post. I think Adele is massively overrated, with limited talent and frankly quite unattractive. We can't expect every pop starlet to be Britney, but as an earlier reply stated, there are a great many unknown musicians who have much more to offer than Adele and they could do with the airplay that is wasted on her.

Everyone i know LOVES Adele ! i feel persecuted for not liking her music ! Now Im a big believer in not listening to crap i dont enjoy ... its easy to say "you dont have to listen if you dont want to hear it" but this crap is constantly on the radio ! so its difficult not to listen !! especially when you work in a factory where you are not in control of the radio ! it can be torture on a daily basis ! .... yes Adele is overrated, depressing and just shit ! I haven been tempted to seek different employment just so i dont have to listen to her monotonous whining every single day ! I cant stand Adele but thanks to the radio i have listened to her new album in its entiriety ! and all those songs sound the bloody same ! When are people going to stop liking whats popular ? its like everyone likes her because everyone else does !!! ... we are not sheep ! nor are we cattle FFS !

Hmph... my kids like her ... but I agree with you 101 percent. I find her singing as subtle as a loud fog horn. No volume control, No EQ, No mute button, No tenderness, Fake emotion, just one LOUD, LOUD sound - EVERY NOTE MUST BE A POWER NOTE... Every time one of ther songs comes on, I skip radio channels.

I spent two hours at a cafe where they were playing an entire album and my head hurt so much my ears just couldnt stand it anymore and id perhaps never go back to that cafe. my head still hurts now and her screeching is still in my head and im about to vomit.

You couldn't have said it any better! I am a vocal coach, & can't stand to hear singers push the break by yelling their friggin' throats out. No wonder she had to get vocal surgery; yes, it was to over-use, but also to vocal trauma. There's a time & place for yelling; it's at a sporting event. What's happened to honouring great technique, and (as the person below said) subtelty? What's happened to the singers who actually open the back of their mouths when they sing, so we can hear a well-controlled open tone that doesn't damage our ears? I'm glad we are all in agreement here! And the coin doesn't stop here, folks.... one of the biggest artists in Christian music now - Lauren Daigle - is another Adele-like singer.
