+361 It seems like today, instead of spanking kids, parents are taking them to doctors so they can be diagnosed and given medication that will calm them down. That sounds more like abuse than spanking, amirite?

This. Even though some kids might legitimately have a disorder, doctors diagnose youth too quickly. They should always consider lifestyles changes before medications. Often the kids diet's are horrible - sweets all day and microwave chicken nuggets or something for tea, so all those chemicals are gonna effect their behaviour negatively. And, things like being inactive, being bullied at school, lack of discipline, etc., can all effect a child's mood.

This reminds me of my seventh grade school counselor.I'd just had a severe allergic reaction to peanuts and went to talk to her about it because I was having nightmares. She recommended that my mother take me to a doctor to see if I needed anti-anxiety pills. I had a health scare due to a legitimate medical condition, and this means I need anxiety pills?

That sounds like a bunch of crap. "HERP HERP!! OMG This kid will NOT leave me alone! I'll suggest they take some anti-anxiety pills!" I hate any pills.. even my allergy pills. There are too many chemicals in pills that fuck up how we sleep or eat just to fix a little problem like allergies.

Yeah, my (ex) allergist tried to give me the same crap. "You don't need to carry an EpiPen, you can just take these pills! Now, they suppress your immune system, so you'll need to be careful of infection. And some people reported mild nausea and hair loss. And, of course, you still won't be able to eat peanuts. Your reactions just won't be as bad." Um, no thank you, I think I'll just carry the EpiPen. And switch allergists.

Personally, I just try to stay away from medicine of any kind unless it's an emergerncy. I agree with the fact that there are too many chemicals, but I will gladly take a natural substitute.
