+32 Rooted or jailbroken phones are way better, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Only if you know what you're doing. Android had apps and programs that makes rooting phones easy enough for just about any idiot to do it. I could easily imagime someone going into the root of the phone and saying "Ooh, what does this do? *DELETE*" and completely fucking up their phone.

I think if someone who doesn't know what they're doing gets all trigger happy with the delete button and subsequently bricks their device then they deserve the brick, and the voided warranty or whatever.

Yes but that is what causes people to get pissed and say "WTF this is complicated! Why won't my phone turn on? This sucks! I hate android!"

Haha yeah, you think the disclaimers would actually stop some people. I don't go screwin around on iPhones, cause I have no idea how their OS works. Likewise, some people shouldn't mess with their Androids if they don't know how to work Linux.

Well I'm sure a lot of people with rooted phones don't know how Linux works. As long as they are smart enough to realize they don't know what they're doing and only use the root for apps like Auto Killer and installing roms they can still root their phones. Honestly though, anyone who isn't intelligent enough to not screw with the actual files in the root when they know they don't know what the fuck they're doing really shouldn't have an Android phone in the first place.

You said it better, lol. What I did when I was first learning about the apps and deleting stuff was just follow a list of things that were safe to delete, and then I learned the rest on my own.

I honestly don't feel a need to learn all that stuff. Maybe its because I have a lower end phone, but I feel like I know just enough to solve any small problem I might have. I leave the complicated stuff to the smart people at XDA.

XDA, ACS, and AndroidForums have been quite helpful to me.

They're all helpful, but XDA is where all the awesome roms and and tools are developed. Thanks to them I have Gingerbread working perfectly on my phone. I'm hoping they're able to get Ice Cream Sandwich on there as well in a year or so if LG doesn't update it after 2.3.
