-106 It's stupid how a 91 year old is facing life in prison for murdering people in nazi concentration camps but the people who nuked Japan are fine, amirite?

May the flame wars BEGIN!

this is a world of hypocrisy. liking people is never a 100% illegal. we have forgotten that even though the end doesn't justify the means, the means also don't justify the end.

"liking poeple"?...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

auto-correct fail. though, liking under minor is also illegal.

Both parties were just following orders, right?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The only difference is that the Nazi's would have been killed themselves if they didn't follow orders. Whereas those soldiers would have just been discharged from the military.

Wrong. In Germany, while Naziism was glamorized, no one forced you to become a Nazi. At the start of the training, each potential Nazi was given a puppy. At the end of the training, they were to strangle the puppy. Some Nazis sent postcards home with pictures of themselves shooting women and children. They were sadists. They were evil. They took pride in other people's pain. Nazis were NOT just following orders. German soldiers fighting in World War II were just following orders. There's an important distinction to be made between German soldiers and Nazis. German soldiers were fighting for their country, and although their country was corrupt, they didn't actually do anything wrong. Nazis and followers of Hitler took it a step further, aiding in a genocide. Without a doubt, the Nazis deserved to be tried and thrown in jail.

kind of agree, but nazi's killed like 6 million jews? i know it sounds bad, but only a few hundred thousand died in hiroshima and nagasaki

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That one nazi almost certainly did not kill 6 million Jews. If they disobeyed, Hitler would have killed them. Hitler's the one who should be rotting in some jail cell, but he already gave himself the death penalty.

A lot more lives would have been lost if we didn't nuke Japan. It's not a thing the US should gloat about, however, it was necessary for the US.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That 91-year-old should consider himself lucky he didn't get caught earlier and had the chance to live a normal life after the war.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If we hadn't nuked Japan, more lives would have been lost. The alternative was an invasion of Japan, which would have killed a ton of our soldiers, all of Japan's soldiers, and most of Japan's civilians. They were planning to rush our soldiers with pointy sticks, they would have been slaughtered.

Weapon of choice? Pointy stick. <3 it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Bombing Japan was in fact a war crime and should be treated as such.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No it was not. Learn the definition of war crimes. Just because you don't agree with what the USA did doesnt mean it was a war crime.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes it was a war crime. According to international law it is not permitted to bomb civilians. http://www.dannen.com/decision/int-law.html

Yes, nukes are horrible and involve a mass extinction of life. But you know what would've caused more? An extended war with Japan. We'd just gotten out of one war. A second one would've been just as horrific as nukes.

do all of you forget pearl harbor? who attacked who? japan attacked the US, so we attacked them back. sounds fair to me!
