+290 Americans: It's almost painful to think of how much better our nation would be if politics stayed the way the Fouding Fathers wanted it to be: No butting into foreign affars all the time, no political parties and no polititions doing only what's best for them, amirite?

and Articles of Confederation instead of the Constitution

George Washington was elected under the Constitution. It was after leaving office that he said what the OP refers to. Do some research.

Thank you.

Yeah, no butting into foreign affairs. Worked real well for us at the beginning of the 20th century.

i can't tell if this is sarcastic or not. before WWI, we weren't really imperialist, aside from the spanish-american war and whatnot.

It was, i'm referring to pearl harbor, which I know wasn't at the beginning but it basically was. WE tried staying out but were forced in.

Actually, Washington said to avoid forming foreign ties such as the UN. He obviously didn't say the UN because Washington couldn't predict the future. What he meant by this was that America shouldn't make ties with other countries because they will end up owing us and we will end up owing them. Thus creating a never ending cycle that would make America dependent on other countries. This would take away America's independence, which Washington would want to avoid since he just fought in the Revolution.

"Religion and morality are necessary conditions of the preservation of free government." - George Washington's Farewell Address "The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. . . . I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and the attributes of God." - John Adams "I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus. I have little doubt that our whole country will soon be rallied to the unity of our creator." - Thomas Jefferson Any questions?

This. But unfortunately, the government doesn't give two shits about public opinion.

This is a democracy; we have to approve of something so strongly that a politician would be stupid not to side with it.
