+105 It doesn't make sense when people say "I'm sort of a Christian." You're either a Christian or you're not, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

some people live by SOME christian beliefs, but may not agree with everything that christains live by.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're either in it or your not. You don't get to pick and chose.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not all or nothing. There are many types of Christianity and many ways of following God. "Picking and choosing" which parts of christian principles to dedicate your life to and interpreting ways of applying ancient scriptures to modern day life are all a part of practicing Christianity.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yo femmanist... you are in everything! Jeez...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I like to call those people..the cafeteria people.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

WHY is this post even negative?! definition of Christian: believe Jesus is the Messiah and you are going to heaven because he died for your sins... you either believe this or you do not. and if you do not, you are not going to heaven. All Christians go to heaven so therefore you are not a Christian. its not like you can "sort of" go to hell "/

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think people get the overall message, but are confused by some of the other things in the bible. Ex: Lots of christians say they're somewhat christians because they believe in gay rights, while most strict christians don't.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well I stand 100% behind gay rights, and I am a conpletely dedicated Christian. I believe that God made all of us and He loves all of us, no matter our sexual orientation. As long as a gay person dedicates him/herself to God, God will know their hearts and not send them to Hell because of one aspect of their lives. If He is all-loving, that means He is going to love all of us, not jut the straight ones. I'm not arguing with you; I'm just saying my point of view :)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Now, im not saying that god doesn't love gay people but the bible does say that homosexual offenders will not see the kingdom of god. HOWEVER, I also believe that if a gay person comes to God, and they are sincerely trying to get rid of the spirit of homosexuality, then God will accept them. If they let jesus in and clean ou their spirits... that's good.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I totally agree. And I do believe that if they choose to continue to live in homosexuality, yet sincerely dedicate themselves to God, He will still love them. Jesus died for our sins; it shouldn't be any different for them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, but there's a difference between god loving everybody and him letting everybody into heaven. Saying that someone dedicated their life to God, yet still chose to live homosexually is like saying that another person did the same thing, but decided to continue to steal. Or kill, or gossip unrelentingly, or have a spirit of anger. There HAS to be a change in your life. Let Jesus change you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You don't "choose" to live homosexually.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You do choose to let jesus make a change in your life. Or not.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't understand how you can say stealing and killing are the same thing as loving someone of the same-sex. Is your only justification that in the Bible, they're all considered sins? If it is, please, please just think for a moment about how ridiculous it is to compare those things. Stealing and killing hurt people. Homosexuality does not. That seems like a pretty clear distinction to me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The fact of the matter is that God classified homosexuality as sin. Just like excessive anger, hatred, slander, lying, and all that stuff. And all sin gets the same punishment. This isn't the world's justice system, this is God. Not to say he's mean, but to say that God and sin DO NOT MIX.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Don't take this personally (you are not the only person who does this) but I absolutely hate it when people say you're not christian unless you _____. Everybody has their own opinion about what it means to be a christian and it's just obnoxious when people on the internet go around telling people they aren't "real" Christians because they believe something different. Christianity is a huge religion and there is definitely room for all sorts of different opinions and perspectives. Frankly, the more diversity we have, the better off we'll be. So if you choose to identify yourself as a christian, then damn it, you're a christian. Sorry for the rant, it's not attacking you specifically, I'm just complaining about people in general.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

so you can just CALL yourself a Christian, and that makes you one? is that what you are saying??

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Not exactly. I'm saying that no one should go around telling people who's christian and whose not as if there were some legitimate, universally accepted definition of what it means to be christian. So if someone wants to call himself christian, who is to say otherwise?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why the fuck does something that says all non-Christians go to hell have a high score?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sorta...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You can sort of believe in Christianity. There are people who are very religious and there are people who are not very religious so it makes sense that you can sort of be religious. There is no one definition of a christian. It varies. For example, fundamentalists believe you must follow the entire Bible literally too be christian, while the Anglican community defines Christians by the Nicene Creed. There are many types of Christianity and many degrees of practice. It's not all or nothing.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You should have capitalized MAN in your name, would have been perfect.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Maybe the person believes in some aspects of Christianity but not others and doesn't want to explain a complicated set of beliefs.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think there COULD be a god(s), and I celebrate Christmas. I don't go to church. Am I a Christian or not?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

A Thesis, maybe. What REASON do you celebrate Christmas?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

conformity!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I believe in God. I believe Jesus was the Son of God. However, I do not believe that gays are going to Hell or that women have absolutely no right to have an abortion. I believe in the basic principle of Christianity which is "love thy neighbor." A lot of the people at my church don't follow that because they hate gays or other groups. We all believe in God, but we have such different beliefs. Am I a Christian and they aren't? Or are they Christians and I'm not?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

The bible says if you believe Jesus is the son of God, and you believe you are a sinner, and you believe the ONLY way to get to heaven is through Jesus, then you ARE a Christian. Have you ever heard of episcopal churches? they are churches that allow gays and such... I know what you mean when you say all these people have different beliefs... its confusing!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

But I don't believe that the ONLY way to get to heaven is through Jesus. I believe that "believing" in Jesus is just doing his will, whether you believe he existed or not.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

what is the other way you think you can get to heaven? good works?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Loving your neighbor, not passing judgement, service. Pretty much just doing the teachings of Jesus without believing in him.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

John 14:6 says: Jesus answered, i am the way and the truth and the life NO ONE comes to the Father but THROUGH ME.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So you're telling me that a person who lives an unholy life (cheats, steals, lies...etc) but believes in God will go to heaven, but someone who leads a good life (serves others, loves, stays faithful...etc) but doesn't believe in God won't go to heaven. If that's true, God is one arrogant being.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

people always bring up this argument... a mean person can get into heaven JUST because they believe in GOD? and a nice person will not go to heaven JUST because the DON'T?! if you are a true Christian and you love God and you are going to heaven, your life will not be unholy in the first place! you will not "cheat, lie, and steal" as much, as you put it. You will live every day for furthering his kingdom :D

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So loving God automatically makes you a good person? What about the people that kill in the name of God? They love him, don't they?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

when you love God, you love the things He does, and you want to please Him. why would you go kill someone? it is against his commandments to murder. That is like if you REALLY look up to your father, and the thing he hates most is when you are disrespectful to other people. So then would you make fun and be rude to someone right in front of his face?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Some people think that's the right thing to do. I'm not condoning it. I'm just saying that some people believe that it's God's Will for some person to be dead, so they kill that person. One of the Ten Commandments is also "keep holy the sabbath day." How many times have you worked on your sabbath? You're not doing God's Will, so clearly you don't love Him.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

... the point of the sabbath is to take one day and dedicate it to God. If you have to work you just make sure you are focused on God. I am going to go back to the father example... he doesn't like you disrespecting people, but one one occasion you are accidentally rude to someone. You regret it immensely because you look up to your father, and you beg for his forgiveness. but you still love him. So even if i do not keep the sabbath holy... i regret hurting God and i ask him to forgive me. it doesn't mean i "clearly dont love him"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You just helped me prove my point. We each have different views in this area. You believe that it's wrong to not keep the sabbath holy, and you feel bad for doing that, but I feel that the times are changing, and it is unnecessary to stay 100% true to an old-fashioned rule. I still love God, but do I love Him less than you do?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I can kinda get not believing in certain stuff like creationism, but no one can be "sort" of a Chistian. When people say that, it's usually because it's the default religion or they don't think about what they believe so they just think "I celebrate Christmas and I'm not Jewish or Muslim, I guess I'm Christian".
