+105 People need to stop saying "don't say that, you might offend someone" because if we sensor our speech, there will nothing safe to say because everything can offend someone e.g. "hi" "don't say that, you might offend people who don't speak english", amirite?

I think this is a repost.. it's kind of similar to this one http://www.amirite.net/357734

hey guess what, your comment is kind of similar to the one amirite gives you if you actually DID copy someone

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(): hey guess what, I was just pointing it out because sometimes mods don't notice, and a joke isn't funny twice.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

For the record, I don't think it's the same.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

..... this was over a year ago who even cares anymore?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Is there a rule against commenting on things that are a year old?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No but I mean once an argument is dropped it should stay dropped. That has nothing to do with commenting

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It wasn't exactly an argument. And I can comment on whatever I want to comment on, regardless of how long it has been since the original comment was posted. I rarely look at the time frame anyway.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I didnt say you couldn't, I just said who cares anymore

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Apparently you do if you are really going to continue this conversation just because I replied to a comment.

Tweedledee is offending me by being a post nazi.

o

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, because obviously people requsting you not to say obscene words in public will somehow be a slippery enough slope that it'll cause us to all be mute in the future and literally obliterate speech altogether.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The post doesn't say anything about obscene words. It says no matter what you say, there's someone out there who can take offense to it so people should quit saying "don't say that you might offend someone" and just let people express themselves.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Okay, saying "hi" isn't going to offend anyone. Why? Because it's not an insulting or demeaning word. Saying nigger or faggot, obviously, is obscene and reasonably frowned upon. Saying fucking "hi" isn't going to suddenly become offensive and make everyone sit around like sacks of potatoes with no further means of communication because society's sane enough to think slandering people might be kinda rude. Complaining about PC is the privileged person's way feeling oppressed. "Oh, people get mad if I say nigger? I'm being oppressed! My poor free speech! Whine cry pout." NO ONE is threatening free speech. The Westboro Baptist Church. Case closed.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The post isn't complaining about being PC and saying nigger and faggot. It's about people stepping on egg shells all the time cuz someone, somewhere, might be offended no matter which way you phrase something. Ex: don't say black, they're African American, calling them black is offensive! But don't call them African American, not all Africans are black and not all black people come from Africa, that's offensive! Black is offensive to some people, African American is offensive to some people. Nigger is offensive to basically everyone so of course we're not gonna say that. But which is it? Some one, somewhere, will be offended by either one. So why not just say which ever one?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Black is actually the more PC term. Black isn't offensive at all, if someone thinks it is then, by all means, they be offended. There will always be extremists who may think "hi" is offensive. Will we revolve our lives around one person? No. The slippery slope in this post just makes my head hurt. There have been so many posts where people think PC is going to rule the world and make our speech "1984-esque". Things like that are the dumbest statements a person can make. No one forces you to be PC! It's just a societal standard called //being nice//. Apparently that's oppression for some people.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's the point. You're being nice, someone else doesn't think so. Why should you quit saying black around someone just cuz they think someone might be offended?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Black isn't even an offensive term. Most people prefer black anyway. I get what you mean, but how many people have you met actually got offended by being called black? Not a significant amount, right? It's a myth that delusional peole use as an excuse to spew their mouths and feel no remorse. Then they use this kind of exaggeration to shock people. PC is when people act civilized around each other with a standard agreed by most people, not a system where one person can scream offense and everyone has to accomodate.

I think you should learn how to spell "censor" before commenting upon censorship.
