You weren't asked if you wanted to be born. You have no say on who your parents are, what society you grew up in, what time period, etc. You can choose to feel sorry for yourself, be angry at the world, or you can suck it up and make the most out of the hand you were dealt. amirite?

You're right. I have been dealt a very good hand. But I have also been inspired by people who have had a rotten life but have had the strength to keep going. I was applauding those stronger than myself when I made this post.

(Sorry Joe, I know I'm commenting on a lot of your posts lately.) That is kinda how I feel too - like, I'm very privileged, obviously being a first world country with a roof over my head and food in my belly. But I used to be brat when I was younger, and one of the things I used to belief was from a Kurt Vonnegut book, the phrase "I never asked to be born in the first place". And now I'm thinking about how stupid that is - that most situations in life we didn't ask for, and it's very childish to assume that your permission must be asked for things that no one can control. And I think it goes back to the old saying "It's not the cards you're dealt, it's how you play them" - it's not what life throws at you that determines who you are, it's how you react to those situations. And, as I said, and as you said, life gave up really good hands.

Also, in regards to talking about being born in a first world country, while obviously most things we deal with aren't that bad - I for one have never been abused or raped or anything, I also don't think you can dismiss a person's concerns and trouble by going "well, you're a middle class guy with food and a house - you can't complain about anything".
