-93 It's kind of upsetting that J.K Rowling is offering the books as ebooks now, because she may have been one of the few people that could have renewed the actual book industry. amirite?

Don't be silly, books have been around forever, they'll never be obsolete. A small demographic will read more bc kindels exist, but that's about all that will happen. Also, if someone is a big enough hp fan to want the ebook, they probz aready own the hardcopy version, donchathink?

Actually, some recent major books have sold more copies on e-readers than they have in physical form. Considering that hundreds of millions of people have ebooks, smartphnes, and computers, it's not a "small demographic" that read e-books at all. One recent article I found pegs it at 20% of the US population: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/04/05/pew-e-book-survey-20-percent-of-u-s-is-reading-electronically.html

that was worded really arrogantly. 'We have technology that many people support that also downgrades the look on books, and they're(books) going to be around forever because very few people are using this new technology.'

Honestly, ebooks are not something people should be so upset about. It saves paper, it makes it easier to carry the book, and you can have multiple books at once. Also, you CAN still read real books. There really is no down side to them.

It takes away jobs though there are people who have to make those books, not write them i mean like actually assemble them.

Cyclical skills. There used to be people who had talent with typewriters, binding books and so many others. Most progress does that.

We charge our kindle using electricity. So, it is still not that much Eco friendly.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Depends on what way the electricity is generated Personally, I still prefer actual books over kindles Mind you, they've got quite a few advantages, but it's not really something for me I think it's nice there are ebooks of the HP series though

Kindles can last a month on a single charge. Plus, it's not like books take no energy to make. Trees must be chopped down using gas-powered machinery. The wood must then be sliced and bleached and compressed, also using machinery. Then, the completed books have to be shipped to stores and customers in gas-guzzling planes and trucks. Electronic readers only have to be made once and can store hundreds of books.

I'd have to agree with you.

I think ebooks are a good idea. They encourage more people to read. I don't want one because i prefer real books, but surely something that encourages reading can't be a bad thing.

I can't see why out of all of the authors there are, how J.K. Rowling would be one of the only authors that could save the book industry. Sure, she is popular, especially with teens, but so are a lot of other authors. Plus, I can't imagine someone saying, "Oh, J.K. Rowling is letting us buy her books as ebooks now! I will never buy another real book ever again!"
