+277 People don't want to hear this, but some of us are more intelligent than others and some are less intelligent. We do not have unlimited potential, but each of us has only certain abilities. We cannot succeed at everything we dream of just because we work hard and have determination. We all have limits, and until a person realizes this fact he is just living in denial, amirite?

Way to confine your thinking within a box. Geniuses once thought that we'd never be able to get to the moon. Wise men once believed we'd never have wireless communications. Very intelligent people once protested that we'd never be able to fit an entire computer into one room. Look at us now. We've reached the moon and are looking into the stars. Cell phones are all we use to communicate and computers are not only lightweight, but portable also. These great minds lived in denial, and my friend, so are you.

You are talking about our human race, I am talking about the individual person. Sure, put all of us together, where each of us is good at something, and we will make a very successful society. But people have to stop feeding into the mentality that "the sky's the limit if you try your hardest". No matter how much desire and hard work I might put into being a professional basketball player, it will never happen. Why? A competitive field and my genetics of being 5'9 won't help either. I'm not saying that we can't each set and achieve high goals, just that we can't set and achieve ANY AND EVERY goal, regardless of how much we want to achieve it

Well, you're not going to become a pro at basketball if you quit before you even begin. Life isn't about what you can't do, it's about what you can! You my friend, can be anything you put your mind to. Take my art teacher for instance. When she was younger she couldn'tt draw at all. Then something pushed her, a wave of determination stuck inside her organs. Soon enough she went on the becoming a professional artist and even working on the movie[z "Emporer's new groove." and she had more or less the same mentality you do. I'm just saying, the sky isn't the limit anymore, we've outgrown that, now it's the stars. [/end corny rant]

Thanks, but I guess we'll agree to disagree. My OP is exactly the opposite opinion of what you just posted, and yes that should be hanging on a counselor's wall lol

The idea is to EXTEND your limits. I would rather fail at something knowing i did my best, then not try at all cause of limits? Congratulations on giving up on life :P

I think you missed the point of the post.

You'll miss 100% of the shots you never take. If all you're looking at are your limits, then all you're looking at are excuses.

This is a terribly negative post. I say you should follow your dreams if you so choose. No matter how ridiculous or impossible they seem, follow your dreams. I honestly believe that NOTHING is impossible. Anything at all can be achieved if you put your mind to it and nothing you say is going to change my mind. Congratulations on giving up on life though :P

I don't think OP is giving up on life, just accepting that determination alone will not allow you to achieve every goal in the universe. I could be completely determined to be a professional wrestler, but I'm 5'1" and less than a hundred lbs. That sort of thing won't happen no matter how much you want it. However, its important to always know that there are goals we CAN achieve, once we realize that there are some boundaries in life. No one is good at everything, and not everyone can grow up to be some sort of superstar.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Thanks. People are making me out to be a downer on life. You summed the OP up perfectly

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well. Its completely trueee. You can't succeed if you aren't aware of your own abilities and limits.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Of course we have limits. I don't know about you, but I'm going to keep on pushing mine. Because people fail to see their own potential, and hey, it's nice having a little something to believe in.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

idk about you but I would rather fail at something trying my best pushing myself finding out my limits and even pushing myself past my limits instead of not even trying

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I like this post, and I don't see it as a negative one. I see it as, you do have to realise that you have limits, and that doesn't mean you stop trying, it just means stop trying to attain the impossible. Like, I dunno if you meant it this way, but I see it was self-awareness. Admitting you're not the most intelligent person ever doesn't mean you should just give up, nor stop trying to seek new knowledge, but it does mean being aware of your own mental self.
