+184 Atheists: You hate when you tell religious people that you're an atheist, and they (some of them, at least) look at you with sad eyes and say "Aw, I'm sorry", like they're apologizing that you're going to burn in hell for all eternity, amirite?

I feel sorry for them.

Same with telling them that you're gay or just not a Christian.

The worst part is when they think I'm only an atheist because my parents are. My ex (a devout catholic) said that she's sorry that I'm "stuck like that". Like it's a disability or something.

Speaking of disabilities, this religious girl at my school bugged me for months about how it was God's will that I was born with one, but that if I went to church and prayed and repented He would heal me. She never could explain why He would be willing to heal me if He wanted me this way in the first place, nor could she take a hint that I wanted her to go away.

It's the same when you tell someone you play bass

I hate when I tell an atheist that I'm a Christian and they laugh in my face and call me stupid for believing in a god.

I don't care if someone thinks I'm going to burn in hell, because I believe I'm not going to. The only thing that annoys me is the lack of tolerance. Just because I'm not of the same religion as them doesn't mean there's something wrong with me.

I usually just say "ah okay, thats cool." and if they want to talk about it thats fine and if they don't that's fine as well.

The only time I'd say that is if I tried to practice my religion with them and they say "I'm atheist". Then I'd say "sorry", because I assumed they had similar beliefs not because I think they will burn in hell.
