+185 Why do people care so much if someone is overweight? If the person is happy and not having health complications, who cares? Amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

the majority of overweight people either do or will have health issues. Its for their own good!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

thank god somebody pointed this out. also looking at those people BURNS HOLES IN MY EYES

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's unattractive.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So people should change themselves just because they don't look pretty?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I never said that.

Welcome to the world of putting things in peoples mouths.

Then why should not being attractive be a factor for wanting other people to lose weight? If they're happy with the way they are and their health is fine, it shouldn't matter if other people don't like the way they look.

"it shouldn't matter if other people don't like the way they look" when did he ever say it mattered. The OP asked why people care, and he answered saying it's unatractive. Never did he say if his opinion mattered; just that he had one.

(TeaBagger.): By disagreeing, it implies that he agrees that because other peole find it unnattractive, that means it's okay for people to concern themselves with someone else's weight.

Again, you're putting things in someone's mouth. Like I said, he's just answering the question "why do people care of someone is overweight". And he answered with the answer many people agree with: it's unattractive. Never did he say "so therefore I want fat people to skinny themselves up for people like me" And never did he answer the question "why should people DO SOMETHING" if that's te question he asked, then you were right. But you're not, because he gaVe a reason why he cared if someone was fat- not why he thinks they should change themselves. You're reading into things that aren't there.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(TeaBagger.): the point of the post is that people shouldn't care that someone is overweight if they're healthy. By disagreeing with the post, he said that is wrong and that other people should care. The reason he gave for why people might disagree is that it is unnattractive, so even if that's not what he's saying, he's making it sound like he thinks this.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

*sigh. You're talkig about two different things: caring and wanting someone to do somethig about it. We've establised that he cared, yet I've shown you that he doesn't care whether or people will do something about it. Which brings us back to your original accusation: "Then why should not being attractive be a factor for wanting other people to lose weight" ........ And I'll say it again, he does not care and there really want people to lose weight on the reason of attractiveness.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

(TeaBagger.): You haven't neccessarily demonstrated that he doesn't care, just that he hasn't specifically said he cares. "he does not care and there really want people to lose weight on the reason of attractiveness." what? Anyway, when he disagrees and that's the only reason he gives as to why someone might disagree with the post, it's not ridiculous to assume that that's his reason for disagreeing.

Lets put it in terms you might understand: You're Christian, Im atheist. As an atheist, I would prefer that everyone else in the world was one too. Even though I know this will never happen. And because I would prefer it; I care that you're Christian. I care because I, like anyone else, would prefer if you were atheist just like me. But does that mean I want you to change yor beliefs because I care? No, because I know that when it comes to religion, people have to make decisions on their own- not what others think. You see- I care that you're not atheist like me, but I honestly don't give a shit if you never convert. Just like how Connor cares if someone is over weight. But that doesn't mean he wants people to chane because of what he thinks.

Overweight usually means they have health problems or will have health problems in the future if they don't lose weight.

There's a difference between being a little pudgy and being overweight. There's a reason why it's defined as bad; it is.

Look, if you wanna be overweight... its cool. But the chance of Diabetes and heart problems will multiply greatly! If a person keeps a healthy BMI, by eating decently and exercising regularly, then they WILL BE HAPPIER. You will have 1) more energy 2) more sex appeal 3) more self confidence. If you are happy with being overweight thats your choice, but this one case where the grass truly is greener on the other side!

i care when i'm sitting next to someone who is so overweight that s/he can't put the armrests down and spills over onto my seat, too. it makes a flight 10x worse when you can't relax b/c you're huddled off to one side.
