+280 Mental disorders are not a choice and those who either seriously think they have one or have been diagnosed with one shouldn't be treated like they chose to be that way, amirite?

And by seriously thinking that you have a disorder, I mean just that. After someone has done their research, have suffered the symptoms for years, read firsthand accounts, etc. In other words, not "oMgZzZZ I'm S0 RaNdUmm I must have add LOLZ!!!" or "wow this is the first bad day I've had in a while, I must have depression!"

Even better is the whole: "I haven't slept well in a few nights lol must have insomnia!"

Right. I think the big problem our society has now though is that we diagnose diseases that people don't really have. I was on bipolar medication for about a year because I told my doctor I had mood swings. So, when I went to college I talked to another doctor, told her I was going off them, and I felt better and healthier off of it. There are a lot of people who do have serious illnesses, but then there are those who are looking for a pill to make them a better person when it just isn't out there.

My favorite is when someone gets annoyed with me for straightening things, I tell them about my OCD, and they say "Well, that's not my fault." It's like, no shit, Sherlock! But it's not mine either!

When preteens are all "omg I have ADHD-look a squirrel!" No. Stfu. It's really not fun at all, and people like you are the reason other people think it's nonexistent.

I've been dubbed a "borderline sociopath" by two different child psychologists, and I'm only fourteen. People don't know, though, because I fake it. I fake almost everything.

But if they have been diagnosed they should take their medication whether they like it or not. It's something to be taken seriously and not to be blown off. That can tear apart families or they could end up in jail for a stunt they couldn't control but would have been preventable.
