+241 They want to put horrible pictures of cancerous lungs on cigarette packs? Why don't they put pictures of terrible car accidents on alcoholic beverages, or pictures of obese people on packets of chips? Amirite?

Chips are in packets? O_o

Not everyon that eats chips are fat and not everyone that drinks gets drunk or into accidents.

and not everyone that smokes, smokes enough to get lung cancer.

I'll say this now, I don't smoke, but I still dissaprove of these measures they've been taking. Honestly, all of the smokers I know (lolhalf of my coworkers at wal-mart, several friends and adults in my life) KNOW about the risks of smoking, but they're mature enough to make the damn decision for themselves. Then there are people who are not so mature and go into things without thinking of consequences (like girls who have unprotected sex in high school and get pregnant), who need the supervision/warnings so they don't end up screwing their education.

They already have where I live, people just smoke anyway. And they've started putting warnings on alcohol bottles, but people will still drink.

Difference being that alcohol (mostly) and chips don't contain chemicals such as rat poison and tar.

All great ideas.

While I disapprove of alcohol, I have to point out that moderation is applicable for both that and chips. The campaign is more to deter kids who still get sucked into thinking that smoking is cool.

Smokers say they become numb to the pictures. After a while, they won't even notice they're there. It might only discourage people from starting to smoke, but it probably won't help them to quit if they've already started.

sure they might become desensitized, but if even one person is dissuaded from starting, then that's a victory.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

I'm assuming OP is a smoker.
