+206 It must be a little awkward for a male author writing in the first person for a female character when she is saying certain things about her love interest, especially when it's sexual attraction. amirite?

yes. i've done that. i'm male (and straight).

Eh, I mean, I've written all sorts of characters. Its not that hard once you get used to it. You have to take yourself out of the mindset 'this is the opposite sex, this is weird' and instead just focus on the emotions being felt in the scene.

It's really hard for me to put myself in a guys shoes. There was one male character that I just couldn't figure out how to write, so I decided to make him a sociopath with no feelings. It made everything so much easier.

I've read a book like that. I didn't even notice until i finished it and looked at the author.

I do that, but in male first person view. You just have to take yourself out of your usual mindset. Pretty fun though.

I've written a work in first person where I switched the point of view between a male and female every chapter or so. They were both protagonists, and they were in love with each other, so I had to write romantic scenes in the point of views of both a male and female (I'm a girl). I didn't find it awkward at all. I didn't even realize it could have been awkward until I read this post.

I find it hard to write in a guy's POV because I have no idea what's going on in their head and I don't want to sound stereotypical and just be like "football, sex, I don't like to talk about my feelings, jajajaja."

I've written in a guy's point of view and I'm straight. For a story I wrote years ago, I wrote a lot about how he was lusting after some girl, but was rejected by her because he was too ugly and weird.
