The idea is to make the country look good, to avoid corruption and to make people work harder to get the jobs. The problem is i think it makes officials more likely to corrupt themselves in order to gain and keep power.

Originally being a politician paid terribly. With the idea that people would do it because they wanted to serve the country, not make money. Didn't last, unfortunately.
