-98 You're scared of putting a CD in a Mac, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's the same as putting a CD in any other computer...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

There's no tray that comes out, it virtually gets sucked into the computer. There's no way to manually take it out.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And for laptop, it gets sucked in, and makes a very weird loud noise that makes you think something is wrong

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Actually, a lot of laptops have trays now...

S/he means Macbooks, I'm assuming.

Apple has a serious problem with moving parts. I wouldn't be surprised if they announced that they would use only solid state HDDs and quadruple their prices.

I don't use macs because I'm not a hipster, and my PC is far superior to anything apple could ever make and it doesn't cost $2000 dollars for a "trendy" brand name

You sound like you don't know the first thing about Macs. First of all, they're not for 'hipsters', a lot of businesses are starting to use them instead of PC's because Microsoft Office works on them. If you wanna be stuck with PC your whole life, your call. But until you try a Mac, you'll never know what you're missing.

I have used macs before and I just don't like them, and Microsoft Office also works on PC. it is no secret that hipsters love macs, have you ever been to a apple store. I have tried using several mac computers and have seen none that are as capable and work as well (for me) as my PC.

I understand there are some people who think Macs are 'cooler' and get them for that purpose, but saying that the only people that own them are hipsters is wrong. Businesses are using them instead of PCs because they're just faster in general. Running lots of programs won't slow it down. They may be expensive, but they're honestly worth every penny. PCs will be obsolete soon because every new game that comes out is compatible with Macs anyway, so PCs will no longer have any edge over them at all.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

PC sales account for over 90% of the market and just a couple of years ago Mac sales dropped about 16% while PC sales were up 22%. I can run lots of programs on my PC without a problem, and even play games while I have several windows running in the background. as long as you see a lot of hipsters somewhere you can guarantee that is not very popular because hipsters use things specifically because they are not popular.

PCs are never going to become obsolete. I'm not sure how you can claim this when the majority of computer sales are still PCs. Also, the only reason Macs operate faster than the average PC is because Macs are twice as expensive as the average PC. If you buy a PC and a Mac for the same price, the PC will always be much faster because it doesn't have a brand name. If you simply look at the computer specs for a PC of equal price to a Mac, you'll realize PCs are much faster for the same price. There is also more selection when you are going for PCs, because not just one company makes them. There are $300 PCs and $10,000 PCs, but the Mac price range is about $600-$3,000.

My elective forces us to use macs, so I am very, very informed of all the advantages and disadvantages of both platforms. Macs are far superior for video/music editing, but unless you want to do that and only that, get a PC. They're more versatile and run a greater variety of programs. All new games run on Macs, but those versions are slightly inferior. PCs are more user friendly, and with a decent firewall and anitvirus software, are just as safe as Macs. A PC runs fast with one program on and slow with ten, but a Mac is mediocre with one, or twenty programs running. Macs can squeeze more out of a graphics card, but most high res games function better on a PC. Moving the cursor in text programs is easier in a PC. Overall, buy a PC, and good graphics card, instead of shelling out twice the price for a Mac. It does not matter if you can install Windows on an iMac. It's like saying you can put a high tech lean-to garden shed on a dilapidated house, thus you should pay for a mansion and get the broken house.

My Mac cost $1200, the same as my PC (which crapped out on me pretty quickly). PCs are a lot better for gaming, but I use my Mac for school and it's a lot better than my PC ever was.

My destktop is a PC. My laptop is a Mac. I game on my PC and work on my Mac. My Macbook Pro can run any game I need it to just fine in the case that I'm not around my desktop. Works for me.

First off, I agree completely with the poster; For a PC use anyway, it's very disconcerting. I honestly don't put any disk in a mac I expect back, because I disklike the idea that I cannot manually eject it should something go wrong. I know theres a few people reading that and thinking about posting "nothing will go wrong, it's a mac" but it could, just like any other computer or any piece of machinery, things happen, sos please don't. On the comment of the mac vs pc debate here, I am a PC man to the bone. I would not use a mac if I didn't have to. I have a PC laptop and PC desktop, but occasionally I forget to bring my laptop to school, or left it at a friends house or something, and have to use the school's macs. They are incredibly slow and their interface is set up for use by 3 year olds. I attribute some of that to the poor set up of our network and some to the computers themselves. Also, in response to someone saying something about their pc being crap after a year, that's because PC companies who make the actual computers are continually improving the product, whereas the Macs are sitting virtually still. I don't hate Apple, just their computers. I like iPods =P
