+243 You'd think a group of people who call themselves The Tea Party would be a bit more pleasant. And, you know, actually drink tea, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And yes, I'm well aware that the name comes from The Boston Tea Party. Just making a lighthearted observation.

The T Party pities the fool

When are they unpleasant?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's a rather rude generalization.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If The Tea Party doesn't want to be generalized they should discourage people from making such signs. If there are decent people who support the Tea Party they're overshadowed by the obnoxious, loud protesters who are practically the poster boys of the movement.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That is, unfortunately, not the dumbest thing I've ever heard. But still, it is sadly ignorant.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So it's ignorant to expect people to protest politely and fairly?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

No, it's ignorant to believe that we can control each other. It's also ignorant to believe that there won't be some people like that in EVERY political group. I guarantee there are democrats and republicans who are just as bad as the Tea Partyers that you don't like.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I would really appreciate it if you took the time to read this article. It does a nice job of reasoning why I don't like the Tea Party. I'm not trying to change your opinion, but perhaps then you can at least see where I'm coming from because we seem to be on two different levels: http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/joan_walsh/politics/2010/03/20/tea_party_racism

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh I understand your negative feelings towards these people. I hate people like that. But I am a libertarian (considered part of the Tea Party) and I know many others that share my beliefs, and we are very liberal-minded people in terms of the race, religion, etc. I object not to your dislike of these people in the article, but to your dislike of the entire group. We are not all one and the same. It pains me every time I see a group generalized upon, when people do not seem to realize that there will always be radicals, but that does not mean everyone is like them. Please understand that. In the same way, not all Muslims are fanatics and terrorists. It would be a terrible injustice to say so. Unfortunately, many people do think so, just as many people agree with your view of Tea Partiers.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Although actually, to be fair, it is a bit naive to expect that. Not that I don't agree that people should protest politely (not sure what you mean by "fairly"), but people will make their points in different ways. So... I would call that naive rather than ignorant. But that wasn't the point of the argument.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, of course I'm naive. I'm seventeen years old. But that doesn't make my opinion any less valid. I'm an intelligent person and I've done my research.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It doesn't make your opinion not valid, but it is the reason why your opinion is not very well supported. I'm sure you are an intelligent person, and I commend every person that does their research. Too many people don't.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Those are so much more pleasant than the protests from the left that portrayed George W. Bush being hanged and things like that, and certainly more pleasant than the riots from the radical left when they protest.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I never condoned such actions. You asked me for examples of the Tea Party being obnoxious. I complied.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I said unpleasant. I'm saying that these are hardly unpleasant, when you consider what usually comes out of large political protests. When you have a large amount of people at a political protest, you're bound to get some violent signs, but considering those are some of the worst, I would say the Tea Party as a whole is pretty pleasant.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Racism's pretty pleasant, yeah.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Those were hardly racist.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Listen, I think it's pretty evident that neither of us is going to allow our opinions to be changed. Let's just leave it and agree to disagree? I'd rather not argue with you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

"Because, Tea Party sounds better than 'angry mob of racist homophobes'"

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Excuse me? Are you being serious? Sorry, I'm just not quite sure. If you are, I applaud you on how ignorant you have managed to be.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's a quote from a bumper sticker, i didnt make it. plus im not even into politics anyway

This is the only kind of Tea Party I approve of: http://ctrlv.in/35622 (picture of Maggots and Contessa from Emilie Autumn's band)
