All of the lesbians I've known look like stereotypical dykes so maybe they don't exactly "come out of the closet" because everybody already knows.

my sisters have small closets and still walk into like 1 inch isn't within arm length i shall go father into the closet til the clothes are touching my face.

Nobody makes a big deal about a girl being a lesbian, it seems. Guys usually think it's hot and girls just don't care. That's just my theory.

Its because being a lesbian is somewhat less taboo then being gay. Guys act like to be gay is a complete loss of manly dignity, so its more of a big deal for a boy to proclaim he's gay.

Im a lesbian and dreading the day I have to come out of the closet. Everyone thinks im straight and almost everyone in my town is homophobic, and all my friends think that homosexuals are weird and gross, so does my family.

I'm in exactly the same position. Among the people I know at least, a lot of them think it's acceptable to be gay, but not lesbian, which really sucks. :/

I don't think people should be downplaying how hard it is for lesbians to come out. I think, depending on the situation, it can be just as hard or harder for a lesbian to come out than it is for a gay guy. Just the word lesbian seems to have a sexual connotation. Not to mention the fact that even though a lot of closeted girls know other lesbians, there is a very specific stereotype for lesbians. In the minds of many people, either they're in porn or they're very butch. At least where I'm from, you don't meet a lot of girl-next-door types who just so happen to like other girls. I think some lesbians stay in the closet because they don't have any other lesbians they can relate to. I don't know, that's just my experience.
