+210 to really find out how someone feels about homosexuality, ask them how they would respond if one of their children was gay, amirite?

Some girl I went to school with said that if she found out her son was gay she would ram a broom stick up his butt repeatedly and be all like, "HOW DO YOU LIKE IT NOW?!" She was being serious.

That's... really unsettling.

I clicked YYA because I think it would be interesting if there were a variance in their beliefs about homosexuality if their child were gay. I have met people who expressed the belief that they didn't have a problem with homosexuality, but didn't want their children to be gay - which to me says a lot, including that heterosexuality is still more valued than homosexuality (or bisexuality, asexuality, etc.) One of my teachers said it, and she said that it wasn't specifically because she had a problem, but that she didn't want her child to go through all the homophobic bullshit. And, nowadays that make me think, like, I read a critique about the It Gets Better project (that wasn't about Dan Savage for once) about even though it has a good message, it's still saying "Hey, maybe one day when you grow up and leave school/move out, you might be treated like a human being", and saying that until it gets better, let's all act like bullying, homophobia, cissexism and sexism are all normal parts of adolescence.

Sorry about the comment vomit, I'm probably reading into this waaaay too much.

Don't apologise. Such articulate 'vomit' is rare on here.

I've heard some depressing responses come out of my friends' mouths. :/

One thing I never really understood (about some religious gay bashers) is how it's okay if they had a son who banged girl after girl without being married, but if they have sex or love even one man then Jesus will hate them.

It also works for racism. I can't even count how many times I've heard, "I don't have a problem with black people, but I wouldn't want my son/daughter to marry one." ono

Exactly. It's almost more insulting in that sort of passive aggressive form. My sister in law (a fucking teacher) tries to justify it as being a cultural thing. "Well I'm Mexican and they aren't raised like us. They don't worship like us. They're just different. It's cultural." I'm like wtf bitch you're American. And racist as all hell, evidently. Yeah we have different ethnic backgrounds, but you can't pull that culture card when you're Americanized as fuck. It just doesn't work.

A parent should love their child unconditionally, no matter what. I will never understand how someone could be so wrapped up in their petty opinions that they could go so far as to hate their own child.
